Guidelines for Selecting Toys for Young Children

Guidelines for Selecting Toys for Young Children

Finding the right toy may seem daunting. There are tons of articles on how to select the right toy. It’s important to find the right one for your child. You may wonder where to start. This article examines the main guidelines to consider when selecting toys. Here are some of the most important things to look for.

First, ask yourself, “Is the toy safe?”  A toy should be well-made, shatter-proof, and easy to clean.  When painted, it should be painted with lead-free paint.  It should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant, if made of fabric. Don’t buy a toy if it or the parts can be easily swallowed. Read labels, safety messages and instructions to make sure that the toy is safe for your child.

Next, consider how durable the toy is. Will it break easily? Does it feel solid? Are there parts that will break off or get lost? What is it made of? By examining a toy well you can get an idea of how long it will last.

Lastly, think about if your child will find the toy fun and will learn from it.  Look for a toy that will be attractive to your child. Will it stimulate them to think? Will it challenge them? Also, make sure the toy won’t frustrate them and read reviews on it. The toy should be enjoyable and educational.

These are a few of the things to keep in mind when selecting a toy for young children. Remember to use these guidelines when you’re choosing a toy.  First, find a toy that is safe. Second, look for one that will last. Third, find one that is fun and educational.  If you follow these simple steps, you will find a toy that is safe, durable and fun to play with.
